When your cheek pads have become thinner due to wear, your helmet will become looser. This is not only uncomfortable, but also less safe. By replacing the cheek pads you can safely get back on the road. HJC recommends washing the removable cheek pads with a standard washing machine and then drying them in the open air (do not tumble dry).
